“If you’re home, I’ll be there in ten minutes.”

“Just got back. Come on over.”

“Good news and bad news,” Kevin said, taking a seat in my office. “Dr. Briles clinic is in a strip mall. Surveillance will be a piece of cake, but there are people coming and going all day. It will be difficult to keep an eye on all of them. He lives on Ward Parkway just south of the Plaza. The house sits back from the street and there’s a hedge along the front. There’s no place to park without being obvious, plus you can’t see everything because of the hedge. We’ve got our work cut out for us. How’d you do?”

“If you think you have bad news, mine’s even worse.”

  “Terrific! How much worse?”

“I had a visit with Arnie and Nick at the Watchers’ office. They basically confirmed what Doc Pearson told us. If Briles is working with this GcMAF stuff, then he’s definitely in the crosshairs of Big Pharma. They’re convinced the other holistic doctors were silenced because they were too close to finding a cure which would cost the drug industry billions. And that’s not the worst of it.”

  “You’ve got to be kidding!”

“Wish I was. Apparently another theory that some of the dead docs were bandying around was that the drug companies were spiking their vaccines with a substance called nagalase which shuts down the immune system allowing cancer and other damaging viruses to grow.”

“So now the drug companies are poisoning us too?”

“That’s one theory. I have no idea what proof the docs had. According to Arnie and Nick, there are dozens of articles on the Internet claiming the doctors were silenced before they could present their evidence.”

“Jesus, Walt! This is WAAAAY out of our league!”

“So what do you want to do? Just walk away and pretend the problem doesn’t exist like everyone else? Leave Dr. Briles swinging in the breeze until his name appears in the next list of missing doctors?”

“I gotta hand it to you, Walt. You know which buttons to push. What’s our next move?”

“Let’s talk to Dr. Briles and get his take on things. Then we’ll decide what to do next.”

  “Sounds like a plan.”

Dr. Briles clinic was open until five and he agreed to meet with us after that.

We informed our wives we’d be late for supper and headed to the clinic.

“Come in. Sit,” Briles said, offering us chairs. “Doctor Pearson said you’d be contacting me. I almost feel foolish having you here. There’s probably nothing to this conspiracy thing, but I just want to be sure. Better safe than sorry, as the old saying goes.”

“I wish I could tell you that was true,” I replied, “but based on the research we’ve done so far, it’s not out of the question that the deaths of all your colleagues are not just a coincidence.”

“I was afraid of that. So you think I might be in danger?”

“Doc Pearson says you are working with the GcMAF stuff. Is that true?”

“It is. Let me tell you something about the human body. It is a marvelous piece of work. Under optimal circumstances, it is constructed with systems that ward off disease, and it has the remarkable ability to heal itself. The key word here is optimal. Because of our degenerate lifestyles and the vast array of chemicals that are thrust upon us, these protective systems are compromised.

“Take aluminum, for example. The Pesticide Action Network North America lists it as toxic to humans and yet, aluminum is commonly found in vaccines, deodorants, anti-perspirants, over-the-counter medications, soft drink and beer cans, baking powder, cake mixes, processed cheeses, and other food products and additives. So we digest this stuff, rub it on our skin and get injected with it and add to that, all we’re breathing from the chemtrails. Over the years, aluminum accumulates in the brain, tissues, and to a lesser amount the bones. It causes brain degeneration, dysfunction and damage due to the blockage and reduced blood flow and oxygen. The brain shrinks as brain cells die. This causes dementia. Symptoms include emotional outbursts, paranoia, forgetfulness and memory loss, speech incoherence, irritability, diminished alertness, changes in personality, and poor or bad judgment. All these are on the rise, and more than 4 million Americans are afflicted.

“That’s just one poison. Then there’s fluoride! There have been over 34 human studies and 100 animal studies linking fluoride to brain damage, including lower IQ in children, and studies have shown fluoride toxicity can lead to a wide variety of health problems and yet over 67% of the nation’s water supply is fluoridated.

“And don’t get me started on food additives like high fructose corn syrup. Today, America is the sickest society on this planet … made so in three short generations. Is it coincidence we are also the most Geo-engineered, vaccinated, GMOed, fluoridated and drugged society on the planet? America needs to wake up and smell the coffee before it’s too late!”

“You’re preaching to the choir, Doctor Briles. So how does this GcMAF stuff fit in?”

“It’s part of our body’s natural immune system. GcMAF activates special cells called macrophages in the human body that have the ability to destroy cancer cells and viruses. Again, under optimal conditions, our body has the ability to ward off disease and heal itself. That’s all we holistic physicians are trying to do, use the body’s natural defenses to keep us healthy.”

“Of course you realize that if you succeed, people won’t be spending billions on drugs.”

“Yes, there is that, and I suppose that’s why so many of my colleagues have disappeared.”

“What do you know about nagalase?”

“Nagalase is made by all cancer cells and viruses. It blocks production of GcMAF, thus preventing the immune system from doing its job. The macrophages are still present in the body, but the nagalase prevents them from waking up and becoming active. This means that cancer and viral infections can grow unchecked while macrophages sleep. People with cancer and children with autism show elevated levels of nagalase in their system.”

“Are you aware that some of your colleagues were suggesting that nagalase is being purposefully introduced to our bodies through vaccines?”

“I’ve heard rumors to that effect, but I have nothing to prove they are true.”

“But if they were true, would that account for the amazing incidence of disease in a society that is more drugged and vaccinated than any other country in the world?”

“Yes, I suppose it would, but I’m really not interested in all that conspiracy stuff. My goal is to treat the people who come to me and teach them how to have a healthy lifestyle in spite of the toxic society in which we live. It’s a daunting and sometimes frustrating challenge. The last thing I need is to be constantly looking over my shoulder, wondering if I’ll be the next one to go. It’s very distracting.”

“I’m sure it is. I think this is all we need right now. My partner and I will confer and get back with you. Hopefully, we can come up with a plan that will ease your mind.”

“Thank you,” he said, escorting us to the door.

Back in the car, Kevin said, “Plan! You have a plan? Please enlighten me!”

“Actually, I don’t. What was I supposed to say to the guy? Sorry pal, you’re toast?”

  “So what now?”

“Now we’re going to talk to someone who knows a hell of a lot more about assassinations than we do --- your mother-in-law, the spy!”

  CHAPTER 20

I still had the burner cell Sarah had given me. I kept it in the glove compartment of my car.

“Sarah, Fearless Fosdick here. Are you still at Maxine’s?”

“My favorite geriatric hero! Yes, I’m still here --- but not for long.”

“Kevin is with me. We’d like to come by and talk.”

“Is there a problem? Is Veronica okay?”

“No, she’s fine. We just need to tap into the expertise of the only spy we know.”

  “I’ll be here.”

“I was going to give Veronica a call,” Sarah said, u
shering us in the door. “By this time next week, I’ll be on a sunny beach in Mexico.”

  “Which beach?” Kevin asked.

“If I told you, then I’d have to kill you,” she replied, smiling. “What brings you boys by?”

  “It’s a long story.”

“Then you better get started. I’m not long for these parts.”

I told her everything we’d learned about the dead doctors and Big Pharma’s possible connection.

She listened intently until I finished. “Okay, I get the picture. The docs are working on a cure that could cost the drug companies billions, but they conveniently disappear. What do you want from me?”

“Could these assassinations be connected to Con Ops?”

She thought for a moment. “Highly unlikely. It’s one thing to terminate someone about to expose secrets that endanger our national security, but to kill just to profit large corporations --- no, it’s just not possible. There’s too much risk of exposure. The government needs people like me to contain genuine threats. They wouldn’t jeopardize all that, no matter how powerful the lobby.”

“But if these are really murders done to look like suicides and natural causes, they must have been executed by professionals like yourself. Any chance one of your colleagues could be doing a little moonlighting?”

  “A rogue agent? I suppose it’s possible.”

“The last time I was involved with Big Pharma, they sent an assassin to retrieve a study that would have tanked statin drug sales. The guy’s name was Uri Hassan. He had been an operative with the Israeli Mossad. Before he was stopped, he had killed at least a half-dozen people.”

  “Who brought him down?”

“You may find this hard to believe, but it was Mary Murphy with her ball bat. The guy was about to shoot Maggie and me when she whacked him.”

“I love it!” she said, grinning.

“Now back to our situation. Have you ever heard of a Con Ops agent going rogue?”

“I have, and they’re dealt with quickly and quietly. Remember, we’re all trained killers. The last thing the agency wants is for one of us to be exposed killing the wrong people. After all, we’re not even supposed to exist.”

“Just for the fun of it, let’s say the guy who’s after Dr. Briles is a rogue Con Ops agent. How can we stop him?”

“Bottom line --- you can’t. If he’s really one of us, he has a dozen different ways to off the doctor. Poison in his food or water bottle, a knife in the back in a dark theatre, a break-in that looks like a home invasion gone bad. If he’s a good marksman, he could take your guy out from a half mile away. Or, your doctor could just be despondent and commit suicide like several of the others.”

“You’re not painting a very positive picture.”

“Oh, yes I am. I’m positive you won’t save your doctor if the contract killer is from my agency.”

“Well then, if we can’t protect the doctor from the killer, we’ll just have to take out the killer before he strikes.”

“Oh really?” she said, sarcastically. “And just how do you plan to do that? A whole team of agents have been trying to track me down without success. What makes you think you can outsmart this guy?”

  Silence.

  “I thought so.”

I saw a far-away look in her eyes. “There is one possibility, but it’s a long shot.”

  “We’re listening,” Kevin said.

“There are several big ‘ifs’ in my plan. IF this is one of our agents doing a contract job on the side, and IF the agency doesn’t know he’s rogue, then what I’m thinking of might work. Remember I said that when the agency has to terminate an agent for cause, they pull out all the stops. I’ve even seen them put out a bounty to encourage other agents. We don’t get paid all that much, and an extra twenty-five grand looks real good. IF I could get a bounty on my head, and IF, the other agents don’t get me first, I’d be willing to bet our rogue would drop the doc and come after me. He can get the doc any time after he collects his bounty.”

“I don’t understand,” Kevin said. “It sounds like you’re dangling yourself out there as bait. He’ll be going after you instead of the doctor.”

“The difference is,” she replied, “I know what I’m doing and know what to look for. Your doctor friend is a sitting duck.”

“But what about Mexico?” Kevin protested.

“It will still be there when this is done.”

  “But what if ---?”

“Don’t say it. I’ve been in this business forty years and I’ve done some things I’m not proud of. Maybe something like this, if I can pull it off, will help ease my conscience. I’d like to enjoy my margaritas and sunny beaches guilt-free if possible.”

While she was talking, an idea was running through my mind. “Would it help if I could eliminate some of the ‘Ifs’ from your plan?”

“Anything would help. What do you have in mind?”

“You’re not the only one with connections in high places,” I replied. “Don’t do anything until I make a call.”

“Sure, but don’t take too long. Your doctor is living on borrowed time. May I ask who you’re going to call?”

“My brother, Mark Davenport, in Washington. He’s some kind of big wig in Homeland Security.”

“Fosdick, you never cease to amaze me!”

  CHAPTER 21

Mark Davenport is actually my half-brother.

My father was an over-the-road trucker, and like the proverbial sailor, had a girl in every port. In this case it was a truck stop waitress in western Kansas. In one of their many trysts, Dad’s sperm found its mark. He was given a new route and never knew he had sired another son, until one day, several years ago, Mark showed up at my door looking for information on a case with which I was involved.

At that time, Mark was with the FBI, but later transferred to Homeland Security. Since then, we have actually worked on several cases together.

  “Mark, Walt here.”

“Hi, Bro. How are things? Is Dad okay?”

“Oh yes, he’s as horny as ever.”

“If that’s the case, how is Bernice holding up?”

“She’s hanging in there. Listen, Mark. This isn’t just a social call. I could use your help.”

  “Sure, what’s going on?”

“I’m hoping you have some connections with Consular Operations.”

  A long silence.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. There’s no such thing.”

“Come on, Mark. Let’s not play games. I know about Consular Operations and so do you.”

  More silence.

“Okay, I know, but you’re not supposed to. What the hell’s going on out there?”

“Let me give you a hypothetical situation.”

“Oh great! I love your hypotheticals.”

“Hypothetically, if I happened to know the whereabouts of an agent that Con Ops was trying to find ---.”

“Stop right there! Are we talking about Nightshade?”

“So you do have connections with Con Ops and you know about Sarah!”

“Of course we do. If there’s a rogue agent running around the country, it’s a Homeland Security problem along with Con Ops. I figured it was Sarah because our last sighting was in Kansas City.”

“Mark, Sarah is not a rogue agent. She just had a problem executing her last order which she felt crossed the line, so she’s taken some time off. She hasn’t hurt anyone and she certainly isn’t colluding with anyone who is a threat to our country.”

“It sounds like she’s colluding with you.”

  “There’s more. I’m sure you remember Veronica, Maggie’s sister-in-law.”

“How could I forget? She’s quite a looker. Is she still hanging with Kevin?”

“She is, and here’s the best part. Sarah Savage is Veronica’s mother.”

“Holy crap! This does complicate things. I’m still a bit confused. Exactly why are you calling me?”

  “Beca
use we believe there is a rogue agent here in Kansas City and it’s not Sarah Savage. It’s a long story.”

  “I’m all ears.”

“Are you familiar with the holistic doctors who have been killed during the past year?”

“Of course, we follow every story. And for your information, no government agency is involved in that situation.”

“We didn’t believe you were. It has to be Big Pharma, and the way the murders were committed, one would have to believe it was the work of a highly skilled assassin.”

“You’re thinking a Con Ops agent is selling his skills to the highest bidder? Walt, how do you get mixed up in all this stuff? I thought you were retired.”

“Hey! I don’t go looking for it. It just comes to me. There’s a doctor here in Kansas City, Nathaniel Briles. He’s working on the same stuff that got the other doctors iced. He came to us for help, but you know as well as we do that this is way out of our league. That’s why we turned to Sarah. She has a plan, but we need your help.”

  “Let’s hear it.”

“First, we have to get assurances from Con Ops that Sarah will be taken off the rogue list.”

  “Why would they do that?”

“Because, like I said, Sarah is not a rogue, but the guy offing doctors certainly is. If Sarah can deliver this murderer to the agency, I would think that would buy her some good will.”

  “Go on.”

“Here’s the plan. We know there are operatives in Kansas City looking for Sarah. The agency has to pull them out, then place one of their bounties on Sarah’s head. If there is a rogue agent here planning to whack our doctor, we think that will draw his attention. He’ll put the doc on hold and go after the bounty. Sarah says she can take him down. What do you think?”

“I think you people are crazy as bat shit, but let me run it by some people.”

“Remember, Mark, this is all hypothetical. If we can’t work out a deal that gets Sarah off the hook, we never had this conversation and I’ve never heard of anyone called Nightshade.”

  “Understood.”
